A Connecticut man is facing drug and weapons possession charges after State Police allegedly discovered both in his motorcycle during a traffic stop in Lee Saturday afternoon, officials said.

Curtis Godfrey, 52, of Winsted was stopped while driving on Route 20 just after 5 p.m., State Police said in a statement.

A subsequent search of the vehicle and Godfrey revealed he was illegally carrying two canisters of pepper spray, prescription drugs, and a leather belt and wristband, which both had metallic spikes, State Police said.

“He had indicators of being in a motorcycle gang called the Connecticut Valley Riders, and other symbols that the trooper recognized as being associated with the Outlaws Motorcycle Club,” said State Police spokesman David Procopio.

He was also carrying four knives, but they were legally his and were not seized by police.

“The knives didn’t have certain characteristics that would make them illegal, like a double-edged blade or being spring-loaded,” Procopio said.

Godfrey is to be arraigned in Great Barrington District Court Thursday, officials said.
