MUSKEGON, MI – Muskegon Bike Time isn’t until July, but the roar of motorcycles will be heard loud and clear in the Muskegon area when the 94th Annual Spring Run takes place on Sunday, May 4.

What started as a relationship-building event between Dan Raymond, the founder of what is now Hot Rod Harley-Davidson, and his customers is now the symbolic start to the motorcycle riding season in West Michigan.

“In our region this is typically the first ride of the year,” said Carl Murat, chairman of the Spring Run. It’s kind of tradition to have your bike up and running by the Spring Run. If you have a winter project or are getting your bike done over the winter, the idea is to have it done by the Spring Run. It’s some incentive to get your bike up and running.”

The ride, hosted by the Muskegon Motorcycle Club, will begin at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the club’s Mt. Garfield property located at 5803 Lake Harbor Road in Norton Shores.

Murat said more than 1,500 people participated in the run last year and he is optimistic that they will reach that number again this year as long as the weather cooperates.

This year’s run is 54 miles long and will be led by Murat. The route will take riders through the scenic countryside of West Michigan before finishing at the Holton American Legion, 9150 Holton Road.

Murat said the ride should take about an hour and half to complete.

Once riders arrive at the American Legion, a post-run party is scheduled to take place. It will include food and drink concessions, event pins and shirt giveaways and door prizes.

Fricano’s Muskegon Lake will also host what Murat called “the after, after party” from 3:30-7 p.m. at its location at 1050 W. Western Ave. in Muskegon. It will include live music, and drink and pizza specials. Admission is free.

“If you enjoy a crowd and enjoy motorcycles, you should come out,” he said. “It’s a really good time.”
