THE girlfriend of Mongols Motorcycle Club sergeant-at-arms Mark Sandery has avoided a prison term for gun charges.

Jemma Caroline Trevean was convicted of offences including possessing a firearm without a licence after police found a sawnoff semi-automatic rifle and silencer hidden inside a cupboard at her parents’ house in December 2011.

District Court judge Gordon Barrett said he and the jury rejected Trevean’s claims at trial that she knew nothing of the gun.

“I am satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that you secreted the firearm and the silencer in your parents’ wardrobe on behalf of someone you knew,” he said.

“In all likelihood I think that person was Mark Sandery or fellow members of the Finks Outlaw Motorcycle Gang, of which he was then a member. He is now the Sergeant-at-arms of the Mongols Motorcycle Gang.”

Judge Barrett rejected Trevean’s claim in court that she was not in a relationship with Sandery when the gun was uncovered.

He found Trevean, 22, and Sandery, 42, had commenced their relationship after a violent attack by Hells Angels associates at Sandery’s former Semaphore home in September 2011, in which his 11-year-old son was shot in the leg.

Former Hells Angels associate Arron James Cluse has been convicted of his involvement , however a number of other people involved in the attack have never been arrested.

Sandery was also convicted of possessing a firearm after the home invasion and served a prison term.

Judge Barrett said Trevean had stopped taking amphetamines since the offending but was concerned that he believed it “likely” she still associated with the people she hid the gun for, including Sandery.

“I note that Mr Sandery has many convictions, which include convictions for firearms offences. Nevertheless, you are to be sentenced for what you have done,” he said.

Judge Barrett imposed a prison term of two-and-a-half years but suspended the sentence on the condition that Trevean complete a three-year good behaviour bond, including taking part in random drug and firearm residue testing.
