Rebels sergeant-at-arms Shannon Althouse in coma as police investigate hit and run at Yarrawonga

THE Darwin Rebels sergeant-at-arms is in a coma after he was run down during a confrontation with an associate of the outlaw bikie gang.

The NT News understands Shannon Althouse, 30, and another senior Rebel member had allegedly assaulted an associate in the industrial area with a weapon when his housemate returned home on Tuesday night.

Police believe the housemate ran down Althouse, who was driven to the Palmerston GP super clinic by the senior Rebel member.

He was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital by St John in a serious condition.

An RDH spokeswoman said Althouse remained in a serious but stable condition in intensive care last night.

Seven hours before he was run down the heavily tattooed Althouse posted a picture of himself in his spa drinking a Corona.

The NT News understands Althouse was reinstated as the gang’s Sergeant in Arms after the Top End’s old guard were bashed and removed from office by a crew of Rebels heavies were flown up from Adelaide.

Organised Crime Division Detective Acting Superintendent Mark Stringer said it was believed the two groups of men were known to each other.

He said police were seeking witnesses to the incident at 10.30pm and charges were yet to be laid.

“At this stage, police have received no complaint from the man, however given the nature of the incident, we are taking this matter very seriously,” he said.

Snr-Sgt Stringer said the altercation was another example of bikie violence and warned against joining an outlaw motorcycle gang.

“This is another warning to anyone contemplating joining or associating with an outlaw motorcycle gang.

“This is just the latest in a long string of violent incidents and arrests associated with gang activity in Darwin. I strongly urge anyone contemplating involvement with an OMCG to consider the consequences.”
