Source: Mall parking lot fight was motorcycle-gang related

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- An assault at the Staten Island Mall parking lot involved members of two rival motorcycle gangs, the Pagans and the Bridge Runners, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.

The fifth annual "Bikers for Bini" charity event was shut down on Sunday after a 54-year-old man was allegedly punched, according to sources.

No arrests have been made in the incident that happened at about 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the mall at 2655 Richmond Ave., said a spokesman for the NYPD's Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.

The 54-year-old man was treated at the scene for injuries that include lacerations to the left side of his face and declined to be taken to a hospital, said a spokesman for the NYPD's Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.

The victim is being uncooperative with the probe, said the source with knowledge of the investigation.

A man in a Pagan logo jacket was seen with an injured left hand and blood on his head as he talked on a cell phone after the fight.

"He looked cut up by his eye, had blood all over his face and neck and ears," a witness in attendance at the event told the Advance.

In the aftermath of the mall fight, police closely tracked the movements and activities of motorcycle riders on Staten Island from Sunday night through Monday morning.

Some readers alerted the Advance to an increased police presence -- including helicopters whirling overhead and numerous squad cars -- as bikers roared around Midland Beach and other East and South shore neighborhoods.
