Police have arrested a number of gang members after a brawl between rival groups at a South Taranaki pub.

On Sunday January 28, members of the Black Power clashed with members of the Rebels motorcycle gang at Manaia's Waimate Hotel.

It's alleged three patched members of the Rebels stopped at the hotel and were attacked by a group of Black Power members soon after they arrived.

Acting Detective Sergeant Heath Karlson described the incident as a "violent confrontation".

Members of the public alerted police to the stoush and CCTV footage was used to identify the alleged offenders.

Karlson said the three victims of the attack sought medical treatment for their injuries.

On Thursday, February 8, the Taranaki Organised Crime Squad assisted by the Tactical Crime Unit and general duties police officers executed multiple search warrants at addresses in Hāwera and Manaia linked to the Black Power gang.

Karlson said five members of the Taranaki Black Power were arrested and were each facing one charge of participating in an organised criminal group, two charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and one of assault.

They appeared before Judge Chris Sygrove in the Hāwera District Court on Thursday.

Jordan Pakau was remanded on bail to reappear in the Hāwera District Court on March 13, while Shayden Hikaka-Beattie, Donovan Hori and Tuma Hori all consented to a remand in custody to appear in the New Plymouth District Court on February 13.

The fifth man would appear in the Whanganui District Court.

Karlson said police were still looking to identify one suspect and were appealing to the public to help locate him.

"This was a targeted attack and police do not believe this male is a safety risk to the public."
