Joburg biker gang terror

Johannesburg - Jannie van Staden will never forget the haunting image of his son’s battered, bruised and bloodied face.

In November, Van Staden’s son Arno and his friend Ruan Snyman were allegedly brutally assaulted by members of the Mac’s Biker Club at the Elephants and Friends Club in Roodepoort. The attack, which lasted for 10 minutes, was captured on CCTV footage.

“I could have lost my son that night,” said an angry Van Staden. “I am furious that these hooligans are still walking the streets.”

Van Staden and Snyman were beaten so badly that the two had to be rushed to hospital with excessive bleeding and head injuries.

The footage, which the Saturday Star has viewed, shows a group of men attacking Van Staden and Snyman. They are seen punching the two men, kicking their faces and then stomping on their heads.

All the attackers wore T-shirts with the name “Mac’s” printed on the back.

Thunderguards agree to leave clubhouse

Thunderguards Motorcycle Club members agreed to vacate their Wilmington clubhouse Wednesday, a month after the state sued to oust them from it because of ongoing violent criminal activity.

The agreement, signed Wednesday by Superior Court Judge Vivian Medinilla, came a day before an emergency hearing to close the club at 2800 Northeast Blvd. was set to take place. Members of one of the nation's oldest black motorcycle clubs must be out of their clubhouse at 5 p.m. Thursday.

"No resident of Wilmington or visitor to our city should be at risk from the ongoing pattern of violence that has been occurring on this property," Attorney General Beau Biden said in a statement Wednesday. "Today's action accomplishes our first goal of immediately closing the property to protect the safety of the public.

Motorcycle Build Gets Superior Students a Diploma (video)

Students across the Northland are gearing up for graduation, but two seniors from Superior High School are tuning up a unique final project, a custom built motorcycle.

The students unveiled their Spartan Bike Build at The Kitchen in Superior Tuesday evening. Building a motorcycle from scratch was something Phil Runser never imagined he would do.

“It's kind of a sense of pride for me because coming in I had no idea how to do any of this. Personally, the closest I've ever done is hammer a nail into a board,” Runser said.

But that changed fast. Runser can now weld and do a paint job. He said mentors from local businesses like Len's Auto Body and Big Lake Cycle passed on their skills .

Sturgis again has an Indian Motorcycle dealership.(pics)

The new retail sales and service dealership opened its doors to the public on Monday and is owned and operated by Vern Eide Motorcars.

Sturgis is home to the annual motorcyclist mecca, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, which was founded by a group of Indian Motorcycle riders in the late 1930s. Last August at the Sturgis rally, just blocks from the new dealership location, Indian Motorcycle unveiled its all-new 2014 Indian Motorcycle lineup to cheers and accolades from motorcycle fans around the world.

Bruce Eide said he first came to be offered a Victory motorcycle franchise in Sioux Falls in 2013. Following that, a representative of Polaris, which relaunched the Indian Motorcycle brand, came to visit asking if they would be interested in taking on the Indian franchise for Sioux Falls.

Pro Stock Motorcycle Riders Thrilled to Return to Atlanta Dragway

After a year absence, the Pro Stock Motorcycle riders of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series return to Atlanta Dragway for the 34th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals, May 16-18.

It marks the third of 16 events for the class and for Pro Stock Motorcycle riders, including standout Scotty Pollacheck, returning to Atlanta is definitely a good thing.

“I’m excited anywhere we go to race and it’s exciting to get back to Atlanta,” Pollacheck said. “It’s a pretty historical track, it’s a big market and it’s always a good place to race. Starting with this race the events for our class start running a lot closer together and we get into the swing of things. That’s always nice.”

Antron Brown (Top Fuel), Johnny Gray (Funny Car) and Mike Edwards (Pro Stock) were last year’s winners of the event that will once again be televised on ESPN2.

Riders come from near and far to support Lansdowne

~Charity motorcycle ride a big boost for Every Kid Counts program~

As long as Lansdowne Children's Centre continues to hold its charity motorcycle ride "the right way," they can continue to count on support from an extensive network of bikers.

Mike Riddick, the Eastern Canada Regional Officer of the Southern Cruisers Riding Club, said that fewer and fewer motorcycle fundraising rides go through the trouble of arranging a police escort.

"That is a big positive for us," Riddick said.

More than 225 members of the motorcycle club travelled from as far away as Sudbury or Barrie to take part in the 10th annual Lansdowne Children's Centre Charity Motorcycle Ride on Saturday, beginning at the Brantford and District Civic Centre.
