Hells Angels roll into Clemson

(VIDEO) --- CLEMSON, S.C. (WSPA) – The streets of Clemson may sound a little louder this week.

Tuesday marks day two of a 3-day summer rally for the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club.

Roughly 500 members are expected to be in town for meetings, events, and exploring the scenic routes that attract bikers to the Clemson area.

Their presence has also attracted the attention of law enforcement.

Some officers are situated with their cameras near the hotels along Tiger Blvd. where the bikers are staying through Wednesday.

Despite the U.S. Justice Department classifying the Hells Angels as an “outlaw motorcycle gang” known for “criminal activity,” some small business owners are welcoming the bikers and their dollars.

Destiny Cruell works at the local head shop “Purple Haze” directly next to the parking lots where the bikers are gathering this week.

Hells Angels member gets 7 years for drug trafficking, gun crimes

PROVIDENCE -- Two Douglas Leedhams came to court Monday: The full member of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club who admitted to firearms and methamphetamine-trafficking offenses and the 54-year-old brother, longtime boyfriend and devoted friend who cared for his parents in ill health and opened his home to provide housing to those in need.

“The story of how you took care of your mother moved me incredibly ...,” U.S. District Court Judge John J. McConnell said. “It tells me you are in fact a very good person who took a bad turn.”

And with that, McConnell agreed to sentence Leedham, of North Providence, to the seven-year term jointly recommended by lawyer William C. Dimitri and Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul F. Daly Jr.

Hell’s Angels motorcyclists different part of Angels Camp’s history

Sixty-two years ago, Angels Camp became a part of history not associated with the region’s famous Gold Rush.

In 1957, the outlaw motorcycle gang Hell’s Angels descended on the City of Angels to create their unique brand of mayhem.

Not all those who served in World War II were excited about returning to civilian life. Some young men who fought in the conflict returned home still searching for the excitement of the war years.

Many found it atop a motorcycle. Surplus motorcycles from the war effort were inexpensive and readily available. Bikers began to form clubs across the country, re-establishing the camaraderie they had experienced overseas back home.

While there were less than 200,000 motorcycles in the United States at the end of the war, by the mid-1950s, they numbered over 1 million.

Hells Angels kingpin detained, suspected of drug offenses

A known leader of the notorious motorcycle club was detained in Helsinki on suspicion of dealing in "very dangerous" drugs.

The Helsinki District Court reached a decision in a closed trial on Saturday, 20 July to remand a suspect who is believed to be a leading figure of Finland's Hells Angels Motorcycle Club. He was detained on suspicion of a string of aggravated drug offenses that dated back to the start of 2018 and continued until the present.

The leader of the criminal investigation characterized the case as unprecedented in its scope.

"There are elements of the case that make it quite exceptional, to say the least. Perhaps even in terms of all of Finnish criminal history," said chief inspector Kaarle Lehmus.

"We are talking about a drug that has been classified as very dangerous. For investigative reasons, I can't say anything about the quality or quantity or provide any more details," he said.
